#25: ITL With Two New Black Belts After Successful Dan Grading

ITL has welcomed two new black belts after a Malta Taekwondo Association Dan Grading event held on Saturday 24th June 2023.

The examination saw ITL’s Michela Scerri and Jean Schembri achieve their 2nd Poom and 1st Poom respectively.

Jean Schembri

Jean, who attends the National Sports School, is a very promising athlete having recently competed in the Asterisks Open, E1 (Serbia). This past weekend, he achieved his first black belt.

Michela Scerri

Already a black belt, Michela, who represents the Malta Taekwondo Association in international competitions, went from first to second poom.

With their newfound Dan status, there are now six active black belts on the ITL roster.

The club congratulates both athletes on their success, and thanks all examiners:

  • Grandmaster Andy Jefferies (8th Dan), United Kingdom

  • Master Priyantha Kumara (6th Dan), Sri Lanka

  • Master Zhang Qi (6th Dan), China

  • Master Neville Desira (5th Dan), Malta

The club would also like to extend its thanks to the Malta Taekwondo Association, particularly to President Anna Vassallo and Andre Scerri, who managed the event on the day.

An honorable mention also goes to Dragon Academy athlete Glenn Galea, who achieved his Dan I on the day.
