#28: ITL Hits The Grid Arena

One of summer’s greatest obstacle course races (OCRs) was attended by five ITL members.

Charlene and Johann Cassar, Gianluca and Kimberly Barbara, and Mamadou Balde were together joined by guests Antoine Pace and Dylan Meli.

Together, they hit the heat on the morning of Sunday 23rd July 2023, and completed the race in an hour.

From rope climbing to trudging muddy trenches, the trail ran a distance of 5 km and featured no less than 20 obstacles. They were strewn across Ta Qali’s picnic park, car park, and Malta’s National Football stadium.

Among the team was Mamadou, who attended the event thanks to the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation.

The THF project is a Malta Taekwondo Association-World Taekwondo initiative, launched last November once the agreement was signed in Paris. The project funds high-potential refugee athletes. Through this, athletes can attend competitions (in fact, Mamadou took part in the Asteriks Cup last May) and other events that concern Maltese culture and team-building.

ITL And Fitness Events

The Grid Arena became the latest in a series of mixed-fitness events attended by the team.

On the 5th of July 2023, Gridders Gianluca and Johann attended a 5km race organised by St Patrick’s Athletic Club.

Beneath the hot summer’s sun, the duo clocked times of 23:10 and 23:30 respectively.

ITL encourages its members to take part in fitness-related challenges. Competition is a proven avenue to facilitate an improvement in athleticism.
