#30: ITL Hosts MTA Training Camp, Trains Under U.K.’s Steven Turner

Another MTA training camp saw legendary coach Steven Turner hit Maltese shores with one mission: To level-up Maltese athletes.

Turner, best known for his work with Aaron Cook (and other renowned athletes) led the camp, which took place at the Iron Taekwondo League gym. In attendance were all three local clubs and eight young British athletes. And they were more than happy to mix it up together.

The camp recorded the largest attendance ever. 45 total athletes battling it out over the span of four days. And under the hot summer’s sun.

In camp, Turner focused on many technical elements of the modern game which included the physical execution of basic skills. All of which were easily followed by athletes as young as seven and as old as thirty-three years.

Long hours, intensive sparring drills and of course... hard sparring against players within the umbrella of British Taekwondo, if not also other local clubs, who performed remarkably well.

This is the sport. One which brings with it its fair share of challenges. And to that, we continually try to improve.

Here at ITL, we are spoiled for choice when it comes to 'tough-as-nails' players. Athletes who aspire to take the sport forward and become professionals in the future.

And if they don't want to become athletes, they will become educated, mature adults ready to face the hard challenges in life. This ambition, I can see in even our youngest players.

It is for this reason, that we are the ‘Iron Taekwondo League’.

On behalf of all Maltese members, I would like to thank Steven Turner for his knowledge, experience, and his time. The club also extends its thanks to all British athletes who attended the camp and the Malta Taekwondo Association, for making this all possible.

The camp will forever be etched as a happy and productive memory, and we eagerly look forward to many more opportunities like this in the future.
