#19: ITL Athletes Conquer The Grid Kids ‘23

Warriors on the mat and in the dirt, three ITL athletes hit The Grid Kids kicked some serious ass in the process.

The event was held on Friday 31st March 2023. It was met with siblings Jean (11) and Ella Schembri (8), together with three-year-old Noah Barbara.

The challenge featured many tough obstacles. Hurdles, cold waters, monkey bars, rope climbing, tire hopping, balance beams, net climbing and daring dives into the mud. Each obstacle was separated by a lengthy trudge along the cliffs and coast of Golden Bay.

All three ITL kiddos completed the course and left with well-earned gold medals.

The event was not officially timed, yet all three finished quickly. Especially Jean and Ella, of whom are seasoned national athletes, even at their tender age. Both athletes are set to fight abroad in the coming months.

Although not taekwondo-related, ITL is a big supporter of mixed fitness and active lifestyles. Since it’s conception, athletes of the club have attended both Spartan and Tough Mudder OCRs.

The explosive nature of taekwondo training is a huge ancillary to the skills needed to complete an OCR. This was seen only last year, after ITL coach Gianluca Barbara completed the Spartan Sprint with no prior training (save that of taekwondo).

The latest edition of The Grid Kids has shown that even children as young as three years can get down and dirty, if the need arises.
