#21: From Races To OCRs, Here’s A Recap Of Our Busy Fortnight

Taekwondo aside, ITL athletes are putting in the hours. The proof is in the pudding, with folks clocking some serious times in various events.

From races to Obstacle Courses (OCRs), ITL athletes hit three events in two weeks.

5km Race

The first challenge was a 5km run held on Saturday 8th April. A race organised by Mellieha Athletic Club.

Hundreds gathered before Tigne Point as they set out at 07:00, along one of Malta’s flattest tracks. The course took them along the waterfront. All the way past Manoel Island and to the Valletta Marina (Sa Maison).

In his first ever race, Gianluca Barbara clocked a time of 24:20, hitting an average pace of 4’50”/km.

The ‘Mini’ Mudder

We’ve all heard of Tough Mudder. In fact, ITL attended the adult series of the event last November. This time, two of our amazing fighters hit the ‘Mini Mudder’ series; made for kids aged five years and over.

Although the event was not officially timed, siblings Jean and Ella Schembri cruised through the event. In fact, Jean was among the first to finish.

Time aside, the two left no stone unturned as they blazed through every obstacle in their path.

It was a busy Sunday for both young fighters, who later still found a way to attend a training seminar conducted by Hadi Mostaan, which took place on the same day.

10km race

Having hit a 5km two weeks prior, ITL’s Gianluca - together with Johann and Charlene Cassar - doubled up with a 10km race in Maqluba.

The run was not easy due to its daunting uphill segments. Regardless, Johann (51:12), Gianluca (52:57) and Charlene (01:05:13) finished the race with a sound pace.

ITL encourages its athletes and members to continue partaking in mixed fitness ventures. In doing so, it congratulates all persons who took part in the above events… with more on the way.
